Rose Quartz: Is it time for some Self-Love?

Birthstone: October

Zodiac: Scorpio

Numerical Vibration: 7

When I think of rose quartz my heart immediately feels the power of love that lies within.  This is my go to momma stone while working with not only the window of pregnancy, but also with fertility and postpartum care. When I found out I was pregnant with my first born I ran to my local gem shop and chose a nice sized piece of this gentle pink stone to serve me through my journey to becoming a mother. I remember meditating with it at my heart space during my pranayama (breath) practice to fill myself with love and to push out any fear. By the time I reached my second trimester and my little man was starting to create his own space from within, I started placing the rose quartz near my bellybutton and bringing that loving energy down to my growing baby.

While working with mommas who are currently holding that bundle of joy in their very tired arms, and desperately trying to juggle the impossible, I tell them to bring that rose quartz back up to their heart. Being a mom is a constant, very demanding, and often times draining job. We give, and give, and give. Then wake up to do it all over again. Sometimes that smile starts to get tired, and that love you project is hard to deliver. It is important that you find that time and space to refill your cup. Yes, probably your coffee cup! But more importantly, your heart space cup. You cannot expect yourself to shine and provide on an empty tank. Stop pushing it momma! Take that time to care for yourself.

With that being said, I know there were some eye rolls. When do I have the time for that? I totally get it. Believe me. I get it. So here are a couple tried and true ways you can quickly get your rose quartz to love on you to start feeling your best Self.

Rose Quartz

  • Meditate. There are so many ways to meditate, so if you are a beginner explore your options whether it be listening to an audio-meditation, sitting in silence, or repeating a mantra with/out a mala (my personal favorite). The rose quartz can be in the mala beads and pass through your hands, giving you that connection. It can also be used in nugget form as stated above, or placed on a crystal grid to allow gazing for connection.
  • Jewelry. This of course is where it all started for me, as a jewelry artist. Wearing rose quartz in necklace form is my favorite too, given the proximity to the heart space.
  • Facial. Are you already washing your face at night anyway? For me that is a maybe…just being honest. However, on Sunday I make a point to take the time and do it right. Once I’ve washed my face I like to apply my toner and use my rose quartz facial roller. If you use serum, you can use after this step too. The benefits of using a gemstone roller include: improving blood circulation, improving skin tone, and eliminate toxins.
  • Gemstone essential oil roller. In my Chakra Balancing series I use rose quartz for the heart stone to be mixed with our essential oils. This practice requires having mini gemstone chips that can be added to the empty roller bottle. I personally love using lavender and ylang ylang oils in my heart roller, but use what resonates with you best. Citrus oils offer an uplifting mood too. You may enjoy the use of grapefruit or orange. Just be cautious of sun exposure on skin for up to 12 hours after application of your citrus oils! It is worth doing some research with the essential oils, as they can react/smell different to different people.

Now that you have some ways you can quickly give back to yourself I challenge you to do just that. Commit to self love at some point today, in any way. Breathe into that heart space and be open to receive this amazing energy you deserve.

Bloodstone: Put a Little Pep Into Your Step

Birthstone: March

Zodiac: Pisces, Libra, Aries

Numerical Vibration: 4, 6

I always wonder why gemstones come into my life. When I began my reiki journey I was drawn to incorporate my passion and knowledge of stones into my work. A few years ago my teacher and I were having a conversation about what gemstones she wanted in a mala that I was going to create for her. She was vague in her response. Pausing she gave me a test. What did I see that she needed? What would serve her the best? I’ve worked with gemstones for most of my life, starting with collecting polished nuggets as a child. But this challenge from my teacher seemed scary. I did not want to mess up! What did it mean to see what was “calling” to me in a gemstone?

Looking back at this challenge I just laugh at what I was stressed out about understanding. Was my teacher setting me up for my path as an energy worker? I’ll simply say, “YES!” Since this question has been presented to me, it has been repeated many times from people searching for support in their lives. One of my clientele niches is that of runners. This is where bloodstone enters this blog. While assisting runners with conditioning through reiki and yoga the question of best gemstone for endurance has come up multiple times. Through my research, bloodstone is by far my favorite. And here’s why…

Bloodstone is a beautiful dark green and red stone that connects to both the Root and Heart Chakras. As a runner I appreciate the connection to the Earth with each step. Breathing the air, and being a part of something larger than me will never lose its charm. Then there is the connection to the heart, or the blood flow of the body while running. Go ahead. Get that heart rate up. Feel the beating of this amazing piece of you. When you are running out of gas, I invite you to shift that mindset to this constant beat. You’ve got this! Take that deep breath to reset and feel your tank get that mental fuel it needs.

So how do I bring the power of bloodstone into my run? I have created easy to wear power bracelets in the past, and wear it for all my long runs and races. I also recommend tucking a polished nugget into the little key pouch most running pants have along the waistline. If you are out during mosquito time, bloodstone is said to repel these nasty pests too.

Now that I’ve been working with reiki in combination of gemstone applications for my clients I get called to use specific gemstones for support often during our session. I also look at what connection that particular stone has with me. For instance, bloodstone is a stone that connects to my birth month and zodiac sign.

If bloodstone doesn’t call to you, and you are still looking for a gemstone for endurance support you can also try carnelian and moss agate.

Coincidently all these stones are great with my work with fertility and pre/postnatal care. But that’s for another blog.

Amazonite: Bring Luck to Your New Year

Birthstone: N/A

Zodiac: Virgo

Numerical Vibration: 5

Chakra: Heart and Throat

Being that we have just entered a new year, I thought it would be nice to feature a stone that can help during this time of the year. Most of us leave the old year behind us and look forward with great ideas, big plans, and grand resolutions. You may stick with that cleanse for awhile, or make it to the gym even into spring, but most of the time we fall back into our old patterns. What are some tools that you can utilize this year to make it the best year yet?

Amazonite is a great stone to help you hold onto those new year hopes and dreams. The water color with earthy tones are soothing, and can assist you in pressing that reset button of your life. Be compassionate with yourself, be true to yourself, and take one day at a time.

If you are wanting to detox this time of year after all the holiday excess, I totally understand, and amazonite can help by filtering away pollutants that are around you all the time. Great way to rid yourself from harmful waves from microwaves, computers and cell phones. I tend to set a nugget on my microwave, which is also usually next to where I work most of the day. I have even started to set my cell phone to airplane mode at night in efforts to lower my family’s contact with negative energy.

Possible uses in meditation can be as simple as holding a nugget of amazonite in your hand while you sit comfortably and quietly reflect on what obstacles you may have in your way this new year. Let the stone free you from that weight, like water cleaning off dirt from your body. Begin to see your path in a new light, with fresh eyes. If you practice japa mantra with a mala, I invite you to use the seed sound to the throat cakra, Ham. Find your ability to free yourself from any limits, break away from the past, embrace the new day.

Remember to have fun in your journey!

Amethyst: The Dream Stone

Birthstone: February

Zodiac: Aquarius, Pisces, Aries, Capricorn

Numerical Vibration: 3

Chakra: Crown

Amethyst is my favorite calming stone, one that I use for many reasons. It’s not only the stone for my zodiac sign, but also my numerical vibration. I have used amethyst for calming the minds of pregnant clients during pregnancy, helping with insomnia and overcoming fear. My first use for amethyst with a client was to aid in sleep and to calm her dreams. Placing a nice-sized, flat, round stone Amethyst on the forehead is great in treating a headache, too!

In working with my friend during her pregnancy, I used that stone to assist her in calming down, letting go of fears she had, and helping relax her while breathing through her physical tensions. In addition, I suggested that she place her raw amethyst near her bed to bring awareness to this time of day, to go to sleep and to encourage pleasant dreams once she got there.

Amethyst is also a great stone to place around the house to assist in cleansing the energy. It’s almost that time of year again – spring cleaning! I like to reserve enough time while scrubbing the house to open windows, smudge each room with sage and set an intention for our home. Amethyst helps to remove collected negativity and release a sense of calm in the air. In addition, I keep amethyst in my son’s room all the time to help him when he’s upset or needs to use his room to calm down.

Amethyst is one of the few “Traveler’s Stones” that I keep in the car, too, as it offers protection while on the road.

Possible Crystal Grid Intention: Calming

Great stones to grab for this Calming Grid are: Quartz Crystal, Citrine, Amethyst and Rose Quartz.

Quartz Crystal: The “Master Healer” is used a lot in grids, as they can be programmed to assist with any intention.

Amethyst: Known for its ability to relieve stress and anxiety.

Rose Quartz: This heart cakra stone is very soothing and calming. I feel like a lot of the anxiety I’ve worked with stems from emotional issues. So if we can reveal what is possibly troubling you with a relationship with someone else, or yourself, we can use those soothing vibrations to help let go and move on to a better peace of mind.

Citrine: The “Merchant Stone” is wonderful to bring in prosperity and abundance into your life. If the lack of funds is what is keeping you up at night, not only enjoy its presence in your grid, but also find a spot for a nugget in your purse or cash box.

Citrine: The Stone of Abundance

Birthstone: November
Zodiac: Aries, Gemini
Numerical Vibration: 6
Chakras: Sacral, Solar, Crown

One of those stones that I always have with me! I even store a nice sized nugget either in my cash box or by my square reader to bring forth prosperity in my creative endeavors. Recently I incorporated citrine in a custom mala for a customer looking for support in letting go in her meditation practice. Great stone to let go of negative feelings, and overcoming depression. Allow the power of the sun to lift your self-esteem, move forward with optimism, and find courage to leave behind what doesn’t serve you anymore.

Possible Crystal Grid Intention:
My personal favorite way to work with citrine is to combine it with amethyst and ametrine to truly connect the channel from the Crown Chakra, down to the Solar Plexis, and right back up to bring clarity of thought in my creative life.
